Natal Chart Interpretation of Dan Patrick (Daniel Patrick Pugh)

You will find that the interpretation of your chart is written in simple language, uncluttered by astrological jargon. If a statement appears to contradict another statement, then you exhibit these opposite qualities at different times in your life. For example, a statement that you are highly sociable and gregarious and a statement that you prefer solitude seemingly contradict each other; this means that you vacillate, and need both sociability and solitude at different times.

The astrological factor that the interpretation is based on is also given. The astrological factor is given for the benefit of astrologers and students of astrology. If you are not a student of astrology, then obviously the factor will not be meaningful to you, and you can ignore it.

If you find this interpretation of your birth chart interesting and informative, you might want to discuss your birth chart with a professional astrologer to learn more about the astrological influences on your life.

Chapter 1: General Characteristics

Your fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings).

Your "elemental make-up" is described below. Remember that most people are "unbalanced" or lopsided, and if you are lacking or deficient in a certain element (or elements), it simply means that you need to consciously develop that aspect of yourself to learn to appreciate and/or to work harder in that dimension of life.

Sometimes we overvalue the element that we are least endowed with, sensing it as a lack within ourselves, but more often we neglect or ignore it. The qualities described below will be reiterated and explained in more detail in the following chapters.

You are a fiery individual , filled with tremendous passion and zest for life. You thrive in situations where there is energy, excitement, action, movement, dynamism and drama. Along with your exuberant vitality and enthusiasm, you have an acute ability to visualize future possibilities, and an almost childlike faith in "what could be". Unless you have a vision, an aspiration, or a wonderful dream to believe in, you are not completely happy. You have a great sense of the majesty, the grandeur, and the adventure of life but tend to overlook the magic in small things and everyday life.

You also have a strong urge to express yourself spontaneously and creatively, without conforming to others ways or conventions. Personal freedom and independence are very important to you and you resist being "owned" or dictated to. Secretly you are apt to feel that you are special, charmed, somehow above or outside the realm of "ordinary" people and mundane life.

You have a strong ego and can be excessively proud, dominating, or concerned with self. You have a positive, vigorous, active approach to life, and forcing your intentions and desires upon circumstances feels more natural to you than flowing with or just allowing life to unfold. Essentially you are very "yang" (assertive, competitive, outgoing, direct), and the "yin" qualities of passive acceptance, receptivity, gentleness, and subtlety do not come easily to you. You inspire others with your generous spirit, your idealism, spark, confidence, and joie de vivre, but you can also irritate them with your self-centeredness and your insistence on expressing yourself freely without regard for others' needs or opinions. You also have trouble  being content in the present and would benefit by learning to consciously pacify your restlessness and developing the qualities of tranquility and peacefulness.

As described in chapter 3, you also possess a solid sense of reality, and the ability to work and to discipline yourself in order to concretize your great hopes and dreams.

Chapter 2: How You Approach Life and How You Appear To Others

The following is a description of your basic stance towards life, the way others see you, the way you come across, the face you show to the world. In Chapter 3 you will read about the "The Inner You: Your Real Motivation", which describes the kind of person you are at heart and where your true priorities lie. Read this chapter and the next one and compare them - there may be significant differences between them, in which case "the inner you" may not shine through and others are in for some surprises when they get to know you at a more than superficial level. This chapter describes the costume you wear, your role in life, while Chapter 3 talks about the real person inside the costume.

Ferociously proud and somewhat vain, you like to be impressive and to be seen as Somebody Special. You are not timid, meek, or self-effacing, and are rarely content being in the background or in the subordinate position. You are a natural leader, and do not take orders from others very well. You must have something of your own, something creative - be it a business, a project, a home or whatever - that you can develop and manage according to your own will and vision. Whatever you do, you do it in a unique, dramatic, individual way. You like to put your own personal stamp on it.

You also have a very strong sense of dignity, self-respect, and personal honor and are deeply offended if someone treats you in a humiliating or dishonorable way. You will rarely confront the offender - you are too proud to do so - but you will lose your affection and respect for them. You dislike pettiness and hate to be snubbed or ignored.

You admire others who are strong individuals like yourself. When you befriend someone, you are tremendously loyal, sincere, and willing to go to extraordinary lengths to make that person happy. You are very giving and generous, but your gifts are never anonymous - you expect recognition and appreciation for them. You also expect the intense loyalty that you offer to your dear ones to be reciprocated. However, you often have trouble working with people who are as strong as yourself, for you do not really cooperate or share the leading role very easily. If you are not in the leading role, you aspire to be and will compete with the person who is.

You have great heart and courage, and people often look to you for strength, encouragement, and affirmation. You always have your best face forward and rarely allow others to see you hurting, disheartened, or vulnerable. You also have a very strong need for love, admiration, appreciation, and praise, although you don't like others to realize just how important it is to you.

Your outlook on life tends to be very personal and rather self-centered. Your own self-expression, self-actualization and self-realization interests you more than anything else. You feel that if you do your best where you are, the rest of the world will take care of itself.

You radiate a sense of confidence, well-being, and optimism, which inspires trust and good feelings in others. You like yourself and it shows. You expect success in life and you generally achieve it. However, you also tend to exaggerate or to overestimate yourself, and you can be sloppy and careless when it comes to details.

You are extremely willful, but often achieve your desires in a quiet, secretive, or manipulative way. You may be intensely charismatic and wield considerable influence over others, or you may be attracted to such powerful, fascinating personalities. You tend to go to extremes in whatever you do, to be compulsive, and are driven by a sense of mission or destiny. You don't take anything at face value and are always digging beneath the surface for the deeper meaning or real motivations of others.

Despite the fact that your core self is quite a bit different from the face the world generally sees, you have a strong desire to be seen and recognized, to be acknowledged, and to have a significant influence on people in your environment. You may do remarkable things in order to be noticed. However, you often don't get the full recognition you wish for.

You appear contained, and perhaps wary or mistrustful as well. You watch your step, and frequently withdraw if your environment doesn't feel welcoming and safe. As a result, you may seem much more conservative than you actually are. You fear making mistakes in social situations, and are extremely sensitive to criticism or rejection. As you mature, you're likely to grow in confidence, because you'll learn to depend more on your own evaluation of yourself.

You tend to blend in with and take on the characteristics of the people in your surroundings, and may thus not make a powerful individual statement of your own. You may project an aura of glamour or "make-believe", and enjoy trying on different personalities at different times.

You are a born leader and want to be in power and control of your environment. Far-sighted and prudent, you have the ability to organize projects, and personal advancement and public success is likely to be yours.

You may feel that personal entanglements are interfering with the pursuit of your goals and choose to lead a life on your own. But at the same time you often may feel lonely and alienated by others.

Chapter 3: The Inner You: Your Real Motivation

Although you are quite proud and you like to show off and impress other people with your accomplishments, appearance, etc., (as described in the previous chapter), you are really quite practical, solid, and down to earth also, (as will be discussed below). Because of this, you are likely to actually earn the right to be admired - that is, to have actually done something to be proud of.

You are a steadfast and patient soul, capable of tremendous devotion, dedication, endurance, and constancy. The ability to follow through and stick with things is one of your greatest assets. Once your course is set, you pursue it tenaciously until it is completed, stubbornly resisting any attempts to sway you from your purpose.

You have a very practical nature and want to see concrete, tangible results for your efforts, and you are not one for spinning wild dreams that are unlikely to come into fruition. Most of your "wild dreams" have to do with material achievements, well-being, and security, for you have a great love of the physical world and you want to experience and enjoy it to the full. Though you will work long and persistently, you also have a strong sensual and comfort-loving side, and you want to enjoy what you have worked for. In fact, you can be enormously lazy at times and have a tendency to overindulge in good food and other earthly pleasures. You also love the beauty of the natural world and probably prefer a serene country setting rather than an urban life style.

At heart your needs are simple and you are easy to please. You have a strong desire for security, stability, and peace, and will rarely make changes unless you are forced to do so. You are not very demanding emotionally, though you do crave lots of physical closeness and affection. Because of your faithfulness, emotional steadiness, and gentle strength, others often depend upon you for support. Though you hate upheaval and sudden changes, you usually maintain your poise and equanimity. You also have an innate sense of harmonizing with nature, allowing things to grow and unfold in their own time, and the patience to nurture something into being - be it a garden, a child, or some creative project. You make an excellent mother or father, especially if you follow your instincts more often than "the experts".

You have three major faults: one is your bullheaded obstinacy. The second is your unwillingness to deviate from your safe, predictable routine. And the third is your tendency to always insist upon realism and undervalue the imaginative, speculative, and fanciful - in other words, you lack the ability to play with ideas and possibilities, to open your mind to the new.

Your career, reputation, and public image are very important to you. You have a strong desire to be influential or make your mark on the world. The merely personal sphere does not satisfy you; your ambitions include making a major contribution and receiving broad recognition for your unique effort and gifts. You may undervalue the personal or inner side of life.

You have big aspirations and the desire to succeed in life in a grand way. You tend to exaggerate, to promise more than is possible, and to misjudge through being overly optimistic. However, you never lose your hopes for the future. Restlessness and discontent with responsibilities and limitations in life can be troublesome for you.

You are intensely willful, zealous, and fanatical, though often you hide the intensity of your feelings and your personal motives and desires. You have an infatuation with power and an almost compulsive desire for personal recognition, the desire to be Somebody. You tend to worship Heroes who have powerful personal magnetism and charisma, and often seek to emulate them. You also have both a fear of, and an intense fascination with, death and the hidden, secret, dark side of life.

Chapter 4: Mental Interests and Abilities

You have an extremely active, lively and versatile mind with a multitude of interests and an inexhaustible curiosity about life. You are quick to grasp new concepts and equally quick to lose interest in an idea or project once your curiosity has been satisfied. You like to taste a little bit of everything -concentration and disciplined study are not your strong points. Mentally restless, you may change jobs or locations frequently, or do work that involves movement, travel, and variety.

You have a flair for language, playing with words, speaking, writing, or teaching in an entertaining and informative way. You also enjoy meeting new people, conversing and learning a little bit about them, and you work well with the public.

Sales, advertising, communications, journalism, or public relations are good areas for you. Your ability to be articulate and to communicate well is one of your greatest strengths.

You think a great deal about your career, your reputation and public image, and the way you make a contribution or impact on the world at large. Public speaking or communications of some other kind is likely to be an important aspect of the work you do.

You have talent for establishing rapport and communicating with people, great personnel skills, and you are adept at dealing with the public. You communicate concern, interest, and the ability to listen, which encourages people to open up and confide in you even if they do not know you well. You create closeness with others by talking to them (even gossiping will do), or by writing intimate, personal letters. Women feel you understand them.

Chapter 5: Emotions: Moods, Feelings, Romance

Warm, loving, and generous in your affections, you inspire tremendous devotion and loyalty in your loved ones. This is good, since you would never settle for anything less! You want to be adored and worshipped like the king or queen that you feel you are, and it is difficult for anyone to resist the warmth and attention you lavish on those you care about. You have a great deal of pride and need to be recognized and appreciated. The way to really hurt your feelings is to ignore you. You are genuine, sincere, and have a strong sense of personal integrity. You hate emotional games and dishonesty.

Your own feelings and emotions are something of an enigma to you, and it is often difficult for you to share with others what you are feeling.

You frequently withdraw from contact with the world, and need a healing, peaceful environment in order to blossom and come out of yourself.

You identify with the oppressed, disenfranchised or underdog in any situation and want to help them or care for them in some way.

You have an inner poise and balance that enables you to act in a cool, efficient manner during emotional traumas and stress. You keep perspective and objectivity about highly charged emotional issues - sometimes to the chagrin of others who might wish that you would react more intensely. You are quietly supportive and faithful to your friends and loved ones.

In addition to your rather introverted, serious, or self-contained side, you have a wild streak and urge for emotional freedom that breaks through erratically. You crave both stability and excitement, and the conflict between these two impulses can make you rather tense and irritable. However, they can also balance one another. Your more free and unpredictable side will now be described.

You have an unusual sense of humor and enjoy acting a little bit crazy or outlandish sometimes. You crave excitement and emotional freedom and like to break the rules and take risks. Anything new or untried appeals to you and you have little patience with restrictive customs. You are attracted to unusual, creative, or offbeat people and nontraditional lifestyles.

Sensitive and sentimental, you are deeply attached to your family, old friends, familiar places, and the past. You are romantic and tender in love, and the remembrance of birthdays, anniversaries, family rituals, and other days of personal significance is very important to you. You seek caring, emotional support, and security in love. You like to be needed, to cherish and protect your loved ones, and you are somewhat possessive of them.

You are a very sociable, congenial person and you wilt very quickly without the company of good friends and people to share good times with. You thoroughly enjoy working with others on group projects or community activities. You are quite happy when you are a part of a club, support group, or team of some sort.

Your artistic feeling or perception gives you a strong creative potential. You have the ability to think in forms or shapes and also to tune into rhythms such as dancing, gymnastics and song. Your physical coordination could be excellent as well.

Your feelings are very rich and you have an enormous capacity to express your love. You are very cordial and likely to experience happiness in love. You also may have artistic aspirations or aims and could be very successful in some kind of art work.

Chapter 6: Drive and Ambition: How You Achieve Your Goals

You are very socially oriented and work well in cooperation with others. You may be active in community affairs or unite with others of similar ideals and intentions to work toward a common goal. Progressive and democratic, you are not concerned with hoarding personal power or having authority over others. You are a team player.

New, unconventional methods appeal to you, especially ideas that involve bringing people together or creating fairer working conditions - such as networking, profit sharing, job sharing, etc. New technologies also interest you.

Your energy level is high but somewhat erratic.  You can be impatient, rebellious, and inconstant in pursuing your aims.

You expect to work hard for anything you accomplish and you have no patience for people who don't pull their own weight. Work is a passion for you at times, and you push yourself too hard. You can be too demanding of the people you work with also.

If your energy is not invested in a job or career, you can become a fanatic about your health, and you may exercise or "work out" vigorously and perhaps excessively.

You have an adventurous, entrepreneurial spirit and the instincts for big success. Competition and rivalry spurs you on to do your best, and to push past your limits. You enjoy taking initiative, and have positive expectations which generate positive results. At times, you are overconfident, cocky, and vainglorious, though. Sports and business are both suitable arenas for you.

Your imagination is great and you tend to think with a purpose in mind. You are able to function despite a degree of uncertainty that colors your actions, and you are likely to have an alternate plan when matters don't progress the way you want them to.

You have a talent and ability for putting fresh ideas and inspiration into practice. You are ready and willing to utilize new ideas and methods, and you have a knack for gaining acceptance for a new idea and practically implementing it.

Positions of honor, affluence, influence, and stature in your community can be yours. You feel you have a destiny which involves leadership or distinguishing yourself in some line of endeavor. You possess an innate sense of greatness or importance, and a strong drive to achieve recognition for your talent. Avoid excessive egotism and arrogant pride, for these could limit your opportunities.

You are intensely competitive, and may engage in furious battles of will, numerous conflicts, and possible public controversy, on your way to gaining your objectives. You could be drawn to activities that are dangerous, in the line of fire, so to speak. You put yourself on the line. Anger or recklessness could be your downfall.

You have grand aspirations and may be inordinately ambitious at times. That is, you're apt to be discontent with small successes and to feel like a failure unless you achieve extraordinary things. Avoid get-rich-quick schemes which promise tremendous returns for little energy expenditure. Even if they do seem to succeed, your ideals and values could be compromised.

You strive to be at one with others, but somehow are not able to synchronize your feelings or viewpoints with them. Feeling disappointed, you may prefer a life in seclusion and away from other people.

Chapter 7: Growth and Expansion: Areas That You Enjoy

You cannot tolerate smallness or pettiness in any form, and you have a tendency to exaggerate. Also, you have a wonderful sense of drama! You must live boldly and heroically. Otherwise you feel you are simply existing and wasting your talents.

The desire for personal recognition - or even Fame - and a need to do something you feel really proud of, motivate you strongly. You have an unusual capacity for fun and playfulness also.

You are drawn to social work, the ministry, giving your time and energy to charitable organizations, or to serving and helping the disadvantaged in some way. Your generosity and unselfishness will bring you and others much good.

You aim high and strive to position yourself in a manner that will ensure success. You are not above joining organizations or rubbing elbows with others primarily for the opportunities and social status that they confer on you. You abhor pettiness and your broad perspective and vision incline you to an influential and successful position in life.

Chapter 8: Areas That Challenge You Or Are Difficult For You

You both yearn for, and fear, being emotionally vulnerable with others and experiencing deep emotional intimacy. Trusting others and letting yourself be known in a deep way doesn't come easily to you, and sexual inhibitions may result from this. You are very self-protective and may be compulsively secretive. Learning to relinquish control in personal relationships, and to be completely open, are important tasks for you.

Your childhood or your relationship with your parents was restrictive, unloving, or unhappy in ways that may prevent you from allowing other people to get close to you in later life. You felt deprived in some manner, whether or not you actually were deprived in some way. Emotional separations or repression of your needs and feelings may typify your early life, at least as you remember it. Forgiving your parents and/or letting go of any resentments you have about the limitations you experienced early in your life is crucial. Also, you need to build your own solid foundation, and investing time and energy into your home, domestic relationships, and inner life can help you accomplish this.

Once you decide what you want to do, you will pursue it tenaciously and, if necessary, sacrifice a great deal for your deeply felt convictions. This trait tends to make you feel a little out of step with others. You take things a little more seriously and have an inclination to be a bit of a fanatic, although probably not flamboyantly so, so others may not know how deeply you feel and how driven you are about the things that are important to you. You have a deep inner resolve and are willing to struggle to do the things that are really meaningful to you, rather than follow an easier but less meaningful course in life.

Your disposition is somewhat melancholic and you could have a rather pessimistic outlook. You have an inner need to be alone and to deeply meditate on your thoughts. You take life seriously and may have been taught early on to learn from your mistakes.

Now we will discuss patterns of behavior which you instinctively and habitually revert to when under stress - a mostly unconscious process and one which you are apt to overdo because it is so familiar and thus easy for you. The direction you need to follow in order to develop balance, greater awareness, and wholeness is also described.

It is easy for you to become distracted from your purpose by the multitude of interesting choices, possibilities, and options available to you. You need to develop single mindedness and focus. Until you direct your attention to some of the big questions, such as "What is my life's purpose?" "What is really important to me and essential to my happiness?", you are apt to dabble, to scatter your energies in many directions engaging in activities which are entertaining but which are ultimately not fruitful or nourishing.

Having an overall vision for your life and aligning your daily activities so that they support rather than detract from your larger purpose, is a significant step in your unfoldment.

The arena you are most likely to wrestle with these issues is in trying to strike a balance between your inner, personal life, and your career or involvement with the world at large. Focusing attention on your home, family situations, and creating a secure inner base is the direction you need to follow.

The specific habits which are likely to hold you back, or which you are prone to overdo, especially during stressful periods, include:

Excessive thinking, rationalizing, talking, and overuse or misuse of your intellectual abilities, as well as dissipating your energy in trivial activities.

Chapter 9: Originality and Imagination
Areas Where You Are Creative, Unique, Unstable, or Compulsive

Most people do not see your wild, daring, "crazy" side, and you yourself may be unaware of it! You tend to hold back the unconventional, inventive, impulsive side of you nature - or to live it out only in your private fantasies. You may have strange dreams!

Daydreaming, lack of concentration, and inattention to your surroundings can be problems for you. Your mind tends to wander unless you are using it in an imaginative, creative way. Dry facts and cold logic hold no appeal for you, and unless a subject has a colorful or personally inspiring element, you won't stick with it for long. You have a sensitive, intuitive bent.

You are an intense person, inclined to be wholeheartedly and passionately involved in whatever your current interest is. You easily go to extremes and you make more moderate, easy-going souls feel uncomfortable.

You may have unusual charisma and also be profoundly influenced by powerful, charismatic figures whom you model yourself after. Learning to use personal power appropriately is an issue for you. Negatively, you can be manipulative and obsessed with personal aggrandizement. Positively, you can be a potent force for change, growth, and healing in the world.

You have a tendency to talk to everyone and become popular very quickly. You seem to be in constant motion and have the ability to express the joy you feel wholeheartedly. You enjoy excitement and could find sudden happiness in love.

You are inclined to be a fanatic in love and could fall in love at first sight. Your experiences in love are likely to be very unusual and you may be attracted to someone who is quite different from you in social background, age or interests.

You have an eye for beauty and tend to be attracted quickly to beautiful and pleasant people. You act spontaneously and prefer love contacts without any strings attached. Freedom is very important to you, and you are likely to have a number of casual relationships.

There may be a sense of confusion and insecurity in your love relationships causing you to misinterpret what actually happens. You tend to idealize your partners, making them seem too good to be true. These exaggerations could result in disappointments.

You are inclined to let others dominate you or use you and learning your own self-worth is one of the adjustments you need to make. On the other hand, there also is a possibility that you could appear dictatorial and too demanding of others.

Chapter 10: Generational Influences: Your Age Group

In this chapter we will discuss characteristics and traits of your generation. Of course, you may not share all of the characteristics of your generation, but you are greatly affected by the tone that is set by your generation.

The first topic is "The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group". In this section we will describe a deeply felt urge, even compulsion, of your age group. This deeply felt drive comes to the surface with great force and power, and consequently leaves in its wake considerable upheaval and change. The second topic is "The Ideals and Illusions of Your Age Group", that describes the dreams, fantasies, and spiritual aspirations of your age group. The third and last topic is "What is New and Different in Your Age Group", which describes areas in which your age group tends to be innovative, inventive, unusual, and also where it may be unstable and unreliable.

The characteristics described below may affect a group of people for anywhere from a few years to about 30 years. There are one or more different astrological factors described in each of the three sections below.

The Subconscious and Emotional Drive of Your Age Group

You are part of a 20 year period that is often referred to as the "ME" generation, a generation that has a very proud and self-reliant attitude. You are a generation that is very concerned with self-development and personal integrity. Women's rights and minority rights are issues that your generation has fostered and they reflect your concern with individual respect, integrity, and honor. Your age group has a deeply felt sense that each person has an equal right and opportunity to fully develop his or her inner potential.

However, your group also finds it difficult to be part of a team and a strong egotism makes group efforts difficult; you tend to see the individual as more important than the group. You also defy authority and often feel that no one has the right to tell you what to do. The strong movement to refuse drafting into the military is one example of your age group's strong sense of individual rights and freedom.

Your age group has popularized the idea of self-development, and has contributed a great deal to the development of individual potential as well as human rights. However, there is also a tendency to be rather self-centered; others may wonder how you can spend so much time developing yourselves and have so little time to contribute to your families!

The interest in personal development also sometimes manifests as a fascination with particular individuals and a great deal of hero worship. Every generation, of course, has lots of idols, but your generation is particularly prone to needing a specific individual to represent and embody an idea or feeling, and to serve as a focal point of interest. Perhaps the most extreme example of this is the concept of the guru that was popularized by your age group.

The Ideals and Illusions of Your Age Group

You are part of a 14 year group of people who have a very idealistic sense of brotherhood and universal cooperation, which, among other things, fostered the peace and freedom movement. Your age group is also interested in the spiritual philosophy and ideals of other cultures, and is not at all dogmatic in its approach to religion. You incorporate the approaches of other religions. Your age group tends to have an eclectic approach to religion, utilizing elements from many religious perspectives (e.g. Eastern and Western), and finds it difficult to follow traditionally defined religious practices.

A gullibility and an unwillingness to be decisive and judgmental inclines your age group to be easily deceived, and consequently many of the well-intended ideals and goals are frustrated by a lack of clear purpose and direction.

You were also born during a period that lasted approximately 5 years and is characterized by an unusually high degree of imagination and sensitivity. You are part of a group of people who are very inspired but also unstable. The bizarre and unusual are standard fare among your age group. Your generation also inspires intense political movements that are often fanatical or unreasonable in their goals.

The entire generation to which you belong has tremendous opportunities for spiritual rebirth and awakening. This will not be forced upon you or precipitated by unavoidable events, rather it comes from an inner yearning and a natural propensity to seek the depths.
What is New and Different in Your Age Group

You are part of a 7 year group of people who have a strong need to feel unrestrained by family ties and personal heritage. Your age group tends to find personal relationships very restrictive, and also tends to feel alienated and distant from family ties and concerns. Forming long-term personal relationships is difficult for your age group, and divorce rates are high in your group. However, you are an emotional and sensitive group also, and this instability is painful at times. Finding personal freedom and closeness with others at the same time is a big challenge for you.
